Design on a Dime

with one comment

We have beautiful gates at our front entrance … we used to, I should say.  Many visitors were so focused on getting into the Arboretum and finding the parking lot that they didn’t even notice our front gates.  So the Planning & Operations Committee came up with a great idea … why not prominently display these detailed metal gates as part of our redesign of the front gate gardens?  With the help of the “Maintenance Men” and Jim Schoolcraft, we were able to do just that!

First, Jim brought out his equipment to cut down the gates from the stone pillars.  The MM’s then built a frame for the gates to stand on.

The flowerbeds at the front entrance were made smaller for easier maintenance.  To get the flowerbeds started (more perennials will be added next season), we planted Aster ‘Wood’s Blue,’ Calamagrostis ‘Karl Foerster’ and Sedum ‘Matrona.’

What a great “Design on a Dime” project … reusing what we already have to create a more inviting and beautiful space at the Arboretum!  I can’t wait to see this garden grow.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this project possible!

See you in the gardens.
