The Fall Harvest Festival is one month away!  This annual event is the Arboretum’s signature fundraising event with proceeds designated to support our operating expenses and future growth.  The main attraction each year is the Scarecrow Contest, with unique scarecrows made in every shape and size by community businesses and individuals.   Other events include an open-air market, games and crafts for children of all ages, picnic food and day-long stage performances.  What better way to celebrate the end of another successful season than with a celebration of all things autumn?

And it’s not just a one-day event – it’s a whole weekend!

 Saturday, September 18

SCARECROW SCAMPER   In collaboration with Hawkeye Community College, the 2010 Scarecrow Scamper will kick off the Arboretum’s festival weekend with all proceeds going to the HCC scholarship fund.  The four-mile, cross-country route includes the Arboretum grounds and begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.  For more information, please contact HCC Student Activities Office at (319)296-4027 or visit http://www.hawkeye college.edu/wellness/scarecrowscamper/.

WINE & SCARECROWS  Don’t miss the Wine & Scarecrows celebration September 18, 5-7 p.m., at the Arboretum!  The event helps raise important funding for the annual operations, maintenance and improvements at the Arboretum.  The evening will include a delicious meal, refreshments (including a selection of great wines, of course!).  Guests will also be able to bid on a variety of silent auction items donated from businesses such as Basket of Daisies, Bancrofts Flowers, Wells Hollow Landscaping, Design Studio, artist Lyndsay Maynard, photographer Bill Schuerman, artist Bill Close, Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, UNI Athletics, and wood outdoor furniture by Randy Robinson.  You can purchase your tickets online at http://www.cedarvalleyarboretum.org/wands.asp.

Sunday, September 19

FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL AND SCARECROW CONTEST  The fun starts at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. so come early and enjoy a great day at the Arboretum!

WANT TO VOLUNTEER AT THE FESTIVAL?  It takes many hands to make our festival possible.  Volunteers are needed Friday, September 17 through day of the Festival, September 19th. Please email office@cedarvalleyarboretum.org or call 226-4966 with your day and time preference if you are able to spare a couple hours of your time.

See you in the gardens.
