New Shade Shade Structure in the Enabling Garden

leave a comment »

Here’s another update I’ve been meaning to share with you for a few weeks.  If you have visited the Arboretum lately, you might have noticed a new shade structure on the north end of the Enabling Garden (just south of the Education Center).  When I first started at the Arboretum, this was a shed to store hand tools.  As the Enabling Garden changed (and we got more storage space in our new barn), there was no longer a need for tool storage in this shed.  Since we are always looking for more ways to add shaded seating areas, removing the walls of this shed to create an additional meeting area seemed like a no-brainer.

Want to take a walk down memory lane?  Below is a photo of the same space from 2008.  The big square flower bed now found in the middle of the Enabling Garden used to be the base of our greenhouse!  (The greenhouse was removed in 2009 because lack of ventilation made the building unusable for growing plant material.)

Big thanks to the volunteers who made this remodel happen!!

See you in the gardens.
